Weekly insider activity checklist

This checklist is a simple workflow for reviewing public insider filings each week. It is designed for research and education, not for trading recommendations.

The checklist

  • Scan for open-market purchases, especially transaction code P.
  • Check whether the insider is a CEO, CFO, chair, director or 10% owner.
  • Compare disclosed value with ordinary routine filings.
  • Look for cluster activity: multiple insiders around the same period.
  • Separate grants, tax withholding and option mechanics from real purchases.
  • Open the source filing before trusting any summary.
  • Track transaction date and filing date separately.
  • Add important tickers to a watchlist so future filings are not missed.

Suggested weekly routine

  1. Review the largest open-market purchases from the last 7 days.
  2. Open each source filing and confirm the transaction code.
  3. Mark companies with cluster activity for deeper research.
  4. Ignore routine compensation events unless they are part of a broader pattern.
  5. Update your watchlist for the companies you want to follow next week.

Weekly insider filing review: I am looking for open-market purchases, senior insider activity, large disclosed values, and cluster filings. I ignore routine grants and tax withholding unless there is a broader pattern. Source filings first, summaries second.
